So what does the 2023 model have going for it – if one takes a look at that sometimes murky automotive crystal ball? Firstly the two powertrains on offer are impressive, There’s the standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine of course – but for those who want to stare the opposition in the eye at a stoplight and grin, there’s the ST model with its 335 horsepower twin-turbo V-6 engine.

It looks like the eight-speed auto box managing power to the front wheels is here to stay (although all-wheel drive remains a possibility).

Styling

The styling of the new Ford Edge is not going to knock anyone’s socks off – if anything it’s beginning to look a bit 90s, but, it still remains a quiet and comfortable ride – and the new infotainment system (the ‘Sync 4’) does bring some much-needed excitement to the range.

The 12-inch screen touch screen (in the mid-range SEL model) is particularly impressive – and the nine-speaker stereo system available in the SEL delivers a great acoustic experience. The SEL is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (and all models boast a wi-fi hotspot). The downside to the tech – a single USB port which might not be ideal.

As far as tech is concerned the Edge is no slouch. Driver assistance has remained a focus – the automatic emergency braking is intuitive and the lane guard assistance a welcome feature. The rear parking sensor will remain standard. It is rumored that the highly effective blind-spot monitors will remain part of the equipment package in the 2020 model.

Customers will like the two new gray paint tones available, and models across the board will now have acoustic coated glass (front and side) to reduce extra noise. There are also rumors of a new wheel design.

As far as the interior is concerned the Edge has a lot to offer. For those who want to opt to spend the extra, the mid-range SEL model will feature 6-way adjustable power rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Also in that package will be heated front seats, LED fog lamps, heated exterior mirrors, roof rails and a chrome exterior trim (amongst other luxury touches). The model range also boasts enormous amounts of room for cargo.

There is little that is revolutionary about the 2023 Ford Edge. but, as a package, it can still hold its own against the competition from Asian and European manufacturers – and the space is top-notch, as is its ability to provide a comfortable driving experience on extended trips. At the top end of the model range (the ST) things get a little pricey, but in the middle of the range, it still offers good value. Look for it to hit showrooms in late 2020.
